The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, is still under investigation by the anti-graft agency. EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, stated that a preliminary report about the embattled former minister has been submitted to President Bola Tinubu, who suspended Edu in January 2024 following a national outcry over an alleged N585 million scandal.
Olukoyede further revealed that there are still a significant number of documents to be cross-checked regarding Edu's dealings during her time in the ministry. He assured Nigerians that the EFCC is committed to getting to the root of the matter and assured that the agency would complete many pending cases in due time.
The EFCC director of public affairs, Wilson Uwajaren, who represented Olukoyede at the press briefing, mentioned that the agency was monitoring around 140 bank accounts in relation to the investigation. He acknowledged that it takes time to thoroughly investigate such cases and gather the required information.
