The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) oversaw the destruction of various harmful products estimated at N10 billion in Gombe on Wednesday. The agency's head, Mojisola Adeyeye, disclosed that these items were confiscated from six states within the North-east region: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Taraba, Gombe, and Yobe.

Represented by the Zonal Director of NAFDAC, Kenneth Azukwe, she specified that the products encompassed food, pharmaceuticals, and other regulated commodities. These goods were apprehended through the vigilant efforts of NAFDAC's regulatory and enforcement officers in the zone who diligently intercepted and seized the hazardous items.

Adeyeye emphasized NAFDAC's commitment to ensuring that only safe and high-quality food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals, and packaged water are available and consumed in Nigeria. She highlighted the agency's dedication to upholding rigorous standards and innovative practices, not only within the country but also on an international scale.

The event was used as a platform to send a stern message to unscrupulous individuals and entities that NAFDAC will persist in safeguarding the health of Nigerians. She assured that the agency would continue to reinforce regulatory frameworks, strengthen surveillance measures, and hold violators accountable.

Through meticulous inspections, cutting-edge technology, laboratory analyses, and robust enforcement, NAFDAC ensures that only top-tier products enter the market. The unwavering vigilance has earned NAFDAC global recognition and collaborations with prominent health organizations around the world.

NAFDAC remains adaptable and responsive to emerging challenges within the ever-changing public health landscape. Adeyeye stressed the importance of removing substandard, falsified, and unsafe products from circulation to prevent harm to the public.

James Agada, NAFDAC's Coordinator in Gombe, mentioned that some expired products were willingly surrendered to the agency, echoing NAFDAC's dedication to safeguarding lives.

Meanwhile, Gombe State's Commissioner for Health, Habu Dahiru, praised NAFDAC for their proactive efforts in curbing the spread of diseases through their work.
