Lagos, Nigeria – October 16, 2024: Access Bank PLC has reiterated its commitment to combatting illicit drug trafficking and money laundering by pledging to strengthen its partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

During the official ceremony held at Access Bank's headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos, the bank announced its collaboration with NDLEA in the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) by appointing its Group Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director, Roosevelt Ogbonna, and Group Chief Conduct and Compliance Officer, Femi Jaiyeola, as partners in this initiative.

In light of the escalating challenge of drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria, particularly in urban centers where the NDLEA has recorded a surge in drug seizures, financial institutions like Access Bank play a crucial role in disrupting the financial networks that enable these illegal activities.

Abraham Aziegbe, Group Head of Retail Operations, representing Roosevelt Ogbonna, emphasized Access Bank's strong stance against financial crimes facilitating drug trafficking and abuse. He expressed gratitude to NDLEA for recognizing the bank's efforts and highlighted the institution's commitment to preventing illicit financial activities through a robust compliance framework.

Aziegbe affirmed Access Bank's dedication to collaborating closely with NDLEA and other law enforcement bodies to prevent drug traffickers from exploiting the financial sector. This partnership is essential in enhancing national security and combating illicit financial practices effectively.

The event was overseen by Dr. Ibrahim Abdul, Deputy Commander General of Narcotics and Director of Assets and Financial Investigation at NDLEA, who commended Access Bank's proactive measures in combating money laundering and supporting enforcement actions. Key officials from Access Bank, including Omolade Fagboyegbe, Omobola Faleye, Robert Imowo, and Daniel Patrick, also attended the ceremony.
