Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has finally heeded the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after previously attempting to evade arrest.
Prior to this development, EFCC operatives had surrounded Bello's residence in Abuja in an effort to apprehend him. During the siege, Abdulkareem Jamiu Asuku, the Chief of Staff to the current Kogi State Governor, was said to have aided the former governor's escape.
In response to this incident, Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney-General of the Federation, warned against obstructing the EFCC's operations. Consequently, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) placed Bello on a watchlist, and the police headquarters ordered the withdrawal of officers assigned to protect the former governor.
However, Yahaya Bello's media office has now announced that the former governor's decision to honour the EFCC's invitation was made after consultations with his family, legal team, and political allies.
