BREAKING: FG prosecutes illegal mining suspects in Kogi, Ondo

The federal government has taken legal action against suspected illegal miners apprehended during a recent crackdown in Kogi and Ondo states within the mining sector.

The Mining Marshals conducted "Operation Hayakin Kogo" in the Ikah Community of Ankpa LGA, Kogi State, resulting in the arrest of two Chinese nationals and a Nigerian for violating regulations in their mining activities.

Segun Tomori, the special assistant (media) to the minister of solid minerals development, Dele Alake, issued a statement on Monday, September 2, detailing the arrests.Furthermore, the Mining Marshals also conducted a raid on an illegal gold mining site in the Ogunlepa, Oluwa Forest Reserve, Odigbo LGA of Ondo State, leading to the arrest of four suspects who confessed to illegally mining gold without the necessary licenses or authorization in a Government Reserved Area.

Two Chinese nationals and a Nigerian were arrested in Kogi, while four suspects were arrested in Ondo for engaging in unauthorized mining activities in violation of regulations.

Illegal miners were apprehended during recent crackdowns in Kogi and Ondo states within the mining sector, leading to arrests of individuals lacking necessary licenses for their operations.
