The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Ogun state, Mr. Abiodun Alamutu, has praised the state government for establishing a special court to try cases related to cult activities. Alamutu spoke during a security roundtable organized by the Ogun Chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS).
The CP noted that the creation of the special court will assist in reducing the burden on regular courts and also help security agencies in combating the menace of cultism, which he described as one of the major crimes in the state. He explained that cultists often graduate from cult activities to engage in armed robbery and other crimes, and the special court will help in addressing this issue.
The event also saw the inauguration of the new Executive Committee members of NANS and NAOSS in the state. The Special Assistant to the State Governor on Student Matters, Azeez Adeyemi, urged security agencies to partner with students and other relevant stakeholders in tackling insecurity in the state. He emphasized that the economic well-being of the people and quality education for the youth are crucial factors in combating insecurity and promoting a more progressive society.
