Ibrahim Lamorde, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria, has passed away at the age of 61. Lamorde died while receiving medical treatment in Egypt.

Born on December 20, 1962, in Mubi, Adamawa State, Lamorde joined the Nigerian Police Force in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021. During his time as a police officer, he served as the EFCC chairman from 2011 to 2015, being the third executive chairman of the commission.

Lamorde was first appointed as the acting EFCC chairman in November 2011, following the removal of Farida Waziri by then-President Goodluck Jonathan. He was subsequently confirmed as the substantive chairman by the Senate on February 15, 2012, a position he held until November 2015, when President Buhari replaced him with Ibrahim Magu as the acting EFCC chairman.

Prior to his tenure as EFCC chairman, Lamorde had a long career in the Nigerian Police Force. He joined the force in 1986 and was involved with the EFCC from its inception in 2003, serving as the pioneer Director of Operations. He also briefly served as the acting EFCC chairman in 2008, before Farida Waziri was appointed as the chairperson.
