A Federal High Court in Benin City, Edo State, yesterday sentenced a man named Osazee Kenneth Imagbenikaro for the offense of spraying naira notes.
Justice C.A. Obiozor convicted Imagbenikaro on a two-count charge for spraying naira notes, which is contrary to Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2007 and punishable under Section 21(1) of the same Act.
One of the counts stated that on April 28, 2023, at the Ogida Police Barracks in Benin City, Imagbenikaro sprayed N100 notes at a funeral ceremony, thereby committing an offense.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges when they were read to him in court. The prosecution counsel, Francis Jirbo, then urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.
The defense counsel pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, as the defendant had shown remorse.
The judge then sentenced Imagbenikaro to six months imprisonment on each count or a fine of N100,000 on each count.
