The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, has praised SP Rilwan Kasumu and his team, who are in charge of the police tactical team in Area K, Marogbo, Lagos State Command.
They rejected a bribe of four million naira (#4,000,000) while investigating a case involving drug peddling and illegal possession of ammunition.
On 6th February, 2024, the team apprehended Esther Newman Obiekezie, a 42-year-old woman known as Candy, at her residence on Mojirade Street, Ilogbo Lagos.
They discovered a large quantity of a substance called ICE and AK47 live ammunition in her possession.
During the investigation, Akete Esther, a 43-year-old woman, and Oke Okebalam, a 49-year-old man from Ajamgbadi Lagos, visited the police station in Ijanikin to request the release of Esther, the drug peddler.
They offered four million naira and asked the police to refrain from disrupting Esther's illicit drug business in the future.
The police officer, disapproving of the bribe, confiscated the cash and labeled it as evidence.
The officer also arrested the duo for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The IGP emphasizes the commitment of the police force to utilize all available resources and employ professional anti-crime strategies to combat various forms of criminal activities in Nigeria.
