Mr. Abraham Agber, the Chairman of Gboko Local Government Area in Benue State, has purportedly been taken by security personnel to Abuja due to an alleged conspiracy to murder the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Hyacinth Dajoh.

The Chairman's unexpected vanishing caused anxiety in the historic town after it was found out that he was forcefully taken by armed individuals from a well-known hotel in Gboko last Friday night, right after having a meeting with his assistants.

A reliable source, who is closely associated with the embattled Chairman, revealed that it was later found out that the Chairman was taken to Force Headquarters in Abuja for interrogation regarding an alleged plan to commit murder.

As per the source, at approximately 11pm on Friday, January 13, 2024, a group of security personnel with weapons forcefully entered a hotel (identity undisclosed) in which an individual, whose name has been withheld, had recently concluded a meeting with their employees.

"They proceeded directly to his room entrance, forcefully knocked and warned of breaking the door unless he unlocked it.

He complied, allowing their entry, and subsequently, they searched the room before apprehending him and taking him away."

The Chairman's arrest in relation to the scheme was confirmed by Mr. Dajoh, the Speaker of the State Assembly and a native of Gboko.

The Speaker denied any involvement in the apprehension of the Council Chairman but questioned whether he possessed the authority to authorize such an arrest without the Governor's approval.

"Despite that, it is essential for all of you to understand that there may be a significant event that needs to occur before that can happen."

"I have received information from the Force Headquarters indicating a threat on my life, and both the Governor and the Inspector General of Police are aware of this. This is not a new occurrence for me, and I have not reported it to anyone."

"He (the Council Chairman) engaged in a discussion with another individual, and the Inspector General of Police informed the Governor about the events occurring in his region."

"I was informed of the situation and made aware of what was occurring in my surroundings, even though it could have been done without my knowledge."

"The Police Commissioner personally contacted me, offering additional officers, but I assured him that I was satisfied with my current team."

The Speaker, who admitted that he had also received an invitation for questioning, stated that he would travel to Abuja on Thursday, where the Council Chairman had been taken, as instructed by them.
