In just six days since the Police recruitment exercise began on Monday, 8th January 2024, a total of 136,177 candidates have already undergone screening nationwide.

Currently, the Police Recruitment Board of the Police Service Commission is undertaking the screening of 416,270 Nigerian youths who have expressed interest and submitted applications for potential employment in the Nigeria Police Force.

These individuals are undergoing both physical and credentials screening as an initial step before participating in an aptitude test and other subsequent procedures, which also include a medical examination.

The Commission has improved and automated its processes during the current recruitment exercise in order to ensure fairness and establish a quantifiable benchmark for selecting successful candidates.

The screening results are promptly uploaded to the Commission's website and monitored in real time by the Situation Room, overseen by Dr. Solomon Arase CFR, the retired Inspector General of Police and Chairman of the Commission.

From the total of 136,177 candidates that were reviewed, a total of 108,768 candidates have been successfully uploaded.

The reason for the difference is attributed to the issues and difficulties caused by the unstable network connection.

The Chairman of the PSC, who also serves as the National Co-ordinator for the Recruitment process, has expressed his contentment with the dedication shown by the Commission's staff, police officials, and other members of the Police Recruitment Board.

He verified that there has been a significant enhancement in the rates of screening as well as uploading, and an accompanying daily dissemination of data.

Dr. Arase commended the field work team and encouraged them to sustain the current progress while aiming for more significant accomplishments.

He gave the candidates his assurance that there was no need to panic and they could be confident that they would all be evaluated by the end of the screening process.

Furthermore, he acknowledged the high volume of people at the screening centers.    Dr. Arase emphasized that the Commission is providing a reliable and trustworthy channel for public service recruitment, asserting that the current Police recruitment process will adhere strictly to universally recognized standards and will be free from any form of tampering.

He reiterated that the nation will take pride in the outcomes of this undertaking.   Nonetheless, he mentioned the possibility of the Commission reconsidering the order of the process, potentially prioritizing the aptitude tests.

Dr. Arase acknowledged that observations from the field indicated an interesting trend, wherein numerous individuals possessing impressive Senior Secondary School Certificates (SSSC) and National Examination Council credentials are unable to write their own names or even introduce themselves properly.

He questioned how they obtained such impressive credentials and noted that by introducing aptitude tests as an initial step in the hiring process, it would weed out obviously unfit candidates and ultimately decrease the number of individuals who would proceed to a thorough evaluation.

He revealed that the Commission would undoubtedly achieve success and create a model for a successful and efficient recruitment process in Nigeria. Dr. Arase emphasized that achieving a successful recruitment process would lead to a significant improvement in the officers' performance, which is the main objective.
