Three individuals were apprehended and the items were taken from them. Nura Abdullahi, who is 38 years old, and Tahir Muhammad Mukhtar, aged 42, were apprehended on the 14th of January in the Bacharawa region of Kano.
They were found with a significant quantity of tramadol 250mg, specifically 5,404,000 pills. The day before their arrest, on the 13th of January, Yusuf Umar, who is 50 years old, was caught in the Gadar Tamburawa area of the state.
He was in possession of 249,000 tablets of exol-5, according to the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
On January 16th, Ali Abubakar and Murtala Sani were apprehended in the Ojodu Berger region of Lagos for possessing 110kg of cannabis sativa.
Another suspect who managed to escape left behind 69kg of the same substance, which was discovered at their hideout in Akerele, Surulere.
On Saturday, 20th January, law enforcement agents from the NDLEA seized a minimum of 2,800 bottles of cough syrup containing codeine during a raid in Aleita FCT, Abuja. The individual believed to be the owner of the shipment, Jideofor Sochima, is currently evading capture. Ike Emmanuel, aged 35, was apprehended on Thursday 18th January in Dan-Anacha village, Taraba state, where a considerable quantity of 100,510 opioid pills were confiscated by the NDLEA operatives.
In another location within Abia state, Joseph Isiguzoro, aged 60, along with Emmanuel Eugene and Malachi Ndu were arrested, and a total of 34,200 pills of opioids were seized by the authorities. Isiguzoro was also discovered with a sum of money amounting to N2,885,045.
The Agency's advocacy campaign, known as the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA), was evenly carried out across various locations in the country last week.
These locations included schools, markets, and worship places. Examples of these activities are: a lecture on WADA sensitization at the Federal University of Technology in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom; a lecture at the Federal Government College in Ijanikin,
Lagos; a lecture at Edusoko University in Bida, Niger state; and an advocacy lecture at Community Secondary School in Bichi, Kano state, among others. Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), praised the officers and men of Tincan, MMIA, Abia, Taraba, Lagos, Kano, and FCT Commands, as well as the special units of the Agency, for their successful arrests and seizures during the past week.
He urged them, along with their colleagues in all other divisions of the Agency, to remain focused and determined in their efforts to eradicate substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria. Furthermore, he encouraged them to continue collaborating with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders within their respective areas of responsibility, thus maintaining the spirit of cooperation.
