On Thursday 18th January 2024, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbeokun, Ph.D., NPM, delivered a speech at the IGP's Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The address was directed towards Explosive Ordnance Disposal - Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Commanders and Directing Staff.
No during the speech, the IGP expressed his appreciation for the exceptional service provided by the Unit in protecting the nation from the increasing dangers linked to explosive substances.
The IGP praised the unit for their crucial role in combating the Boko Haram insurgency and acknowledged their success in stopping frequent bomb attacks. He specifically commended recent accomplishments such as safely dismantling an Anti-disturbance IED at the University of Maiduguri and clearing roads in different areas of Borno State, allowing citizens to return to their homes.
The IGP also recognized the unit for confiscating five IEDs from an unregistered vehicle and eliminating three members of a separatist group in Anambra State.
The IGP emphasized the importance of addressing the changing security challenges in the country. He urged the EOD Commanders to be more proactive, watchful, and prompt in monitoring the production, importation, storage, transportation, distribution, and usage of explosives nationwide. He highlighted the significance of professionalism in combating armed and violent criminals.
