The Minister appointed by Buhari accuses the Police and other Security Agencies of failing to utilize the NIN-SIM policy in tracing criminals.
Isa Ali Pantami, a former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, has alleged that the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies are unwilling to utilize the NIN-SIM policy as a means to combat insecurity within the nation.
Pantami addressed a concern from a user named X about the significant funds allocated to the policy but the ongoing security challenges.
He acknowledged that the implementation of the policy has posed a significant hurdle. After the ex-minister revealed that one of his acquaintances had volunteered to contribute N50 million out of the N60 million demanded as a ransom by the bandits who kidnapped Alhaji Mansoor Al-Kadriyar's six children, this occurred.
Pantami stated that the NIN-SIM policy has been effective, but he urges the appropriate institutions involved in combating criminal activities to make sure they use it efficiently whenever a crime occurs.
He expressed that the main issue lies in the failure to use it, rather than in the policy itself.
During his time in office, he was aware of three occasions when the policy was put into practice, resulting in successful outcomes for their operations.
I am more concerned about the underutilization than anyone else, especially because I faced threats to my life from criminals who opposed its reintroduction.
These threats were reported on BBC Hausa and national newspapers. Nevertheless, I stood my ground and ensured that it was implemented.
"If the relevant institutions responsible for ensuring safety and protecting lives and property are not using it, then I feel extreme frustration.
I have dedicated my life and disregarded all the risks to ensure this."
"This single aspect is only worth one percent of the policy.
May God save all those who have been kidnapped and restore complete tranquility and stability in Nigeria. Additionally, may God (SWT) consistently provide guidance to our leaders and assist them in consistently fulfilling their duties."
