With a focus on anticipation, thorough preparation, and dedication to improving the already strong security framework in the nation's capital, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has inaugurated a Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
The purpose of this squad is to address the increasing cases of insecurity and rampant kidnappings that have been causing significant damage in certain areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
"The FCT continues to be a stronghold of safety and a demonstration of effective urban security management.
Nonetheless, in our quest for superiority, it is imperative that we actively tackle even the smallest indications of potential dangers.
Thus, it is our responsibility to confront all obstacles directly to safeguard the well-being and lives of our inhabitants," he stated.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) expressed grave worry about the regrettable incidents in Abuja and highlighted that the implementation of the SIS today would pave the way for similar programs to be established in neighboring states of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to effectively confront criminal intrusions. This effort is expected to gradually expand to encompass all thirty-six states of the Federation.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) stated that the establishment of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) serves as evidence of our strong opposition to any kind of criminal activities. It is a clear indication of our dedication to taking back our streets, communities, and urban areas from the grasp of disorder.
"We are utilizing all our available assets, including manpower and technology, in order to secure the victory of justice and grant our citizens the freedom to live without apprehension for their personal safety and that of their families." Today, the SIS is being introduced with the intention of having a thousand members in every state.
It consists of officers and soldiers from each unit of the Force, along with a strong collection of resources such as advanced weapons, drones, and vehicles. Some of these resources are showcased here, and they are prepared to be utilized in order to combat security risks. "The deployment of these forces demonstrates our steadfast dedication to ensuring the welfare and protection of our citizens, effectively conveying the message that lawbreakers will not be able to seek refuge within the Federal Capital Territory, and by extension, the entire nation of Nigeria." He emphasized that this mission is not just a simple reaction, but a courageous plan to eliminate the criminal organizations deeply rooted in the neighborhoods.
"We understand the difficulties we will face and acknowledge that the path ahead will be difficult. Nevertheless, we have a strong determination as we begin this task, motivated by our collective duty to bring peace and stability back to all distressed communities nationwide." "Our method is extensive. In addition to immediate action, the SIS will also participate in community-based law enforcement, which demonstrates our belief that public safety requires collaboration.
Through close cooperation with community leaders, residents, and all interested parties, we strive to strengthen the already solid relationship between the Police Force and communities, guaranteeing that every area of the FCT continues to be a secure sanctuary for its residents."
"He stated that the newly established Special Intervention Squad will be sent out to address emerging threats and prevent such atrocious offenses. The IGP stressed the importance of adopting a synchronized and intelligence-based strategy to effectively deal with the changing security conditions."
CRIMEWATCHNEWSPAPER assures Nigerians, particularly those living in the Federal Capital Territory, that the IGP has provided reassurance regarding enhanced security measures.
It is emphasized that this operation is not merely a symbolic gesture but a concrete manifestation of the NPF's commitment to ensuring safety. The IGP acknowledges the hardships faced by victims of violent crimes and the prevailing sense of unease within our neighborhoods.
Our objective is to swiftly and definitively put an end to this period of terror. It is important to highlight that we are working together with the military and other security organizations to guarantee the achievement of our mission. We have confidence that, with your assistance, we will achieve success.
Today, as we launch the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) in the FCT, let us come together to confront the challenges that are jeopardizing our society's foundation.
May this mission bring optimism as we collaborate to create a safer environment not only in the FCT but also across the entire nation. May fairness be expedited and may tranquility prevail throughout Nigeria.
The significant increase in these unlawful acts unequivocally requires urgent and decisive measures from each one of us. Therefore, I am pleased to declare the establishment of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) with a strong determination.
