The Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, has disclosed that certain investigators within the commission accept bribes and undermine the efforts to combat corruption.
During his address to the EFCC staff for the New Year, Olukoyede made it clear that he would take strict action against any officer who damages the reputation of the organization.
"At this juncture, I must emphasize once again the importance of discipline, integrity, and a sense of responsibility in our work approach. Negative public perceptions regarding the behavior of a few of our investigators have been expressed."
Some of our investigators have developed an embarrassing obsession and desire for gratification, bribes, and other compromises, which is unacceptable and needs to be stopped.
"I want to emphasize a cautionary message here. I will not hesitate to take strict action against any kind of violation committed by any employee of the Commission."
Olukoyede mentioned that the Department of Internal Affairs has received instructions to enhance their dedication to tasks and supervise all employees in their various undertakings with greater vigilance.
Olukoyede stated that the Commission's reputation is extremely significant and should not be jeopardized by any dishonest personnel.
He clarified that the EFCC's latest policy initiative is based on a three-pronged agenda and blueprint.
"He expressed that the initial item on the agenda involves directing the mandate of the EFCC appropriately. Additionally, he emphasized the need to establish procedures for effectively managing the administration and governance of the country at different levels."
Furthermore, constructing and enhancing Nigeria's global perception and status as a nation that is deserving of drawing foreign direct investments is crucial.
The Chairman stated that the EFCC is guided by the intention to comply with internationally recognized methods in law enforcement while reviewing the guidelines for arrest and bail.
"We are an ethical organization combating corruption, and from now on, the process of making arrests and granting bail will strictly adhere to legal procedures. Our investigators must pay particular attention to this directive. It is crucial for us to comprehend the evolving nature of law enforcement worldwide," stated Olokoyede.
