The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has launched the year with a series of high-profile arrests, including a wanted drug kingpin, a Nollywood filmmaker, and several other suspects involved in illicit drug trafficking and related crimes. The nationwide operations, conducted in Lagos, Kwara, Rivers, and Kano states, also uncovered massive drug consignments and illegal activities.
On January 1, 2025, NDLEA operatives arrested 61-year-old Alhaja Aishat Feyisara Ajoke Elediye, a Lagos socialite and suspected drug kingpin, in her mansion in Okota. Known in the drug underworld as “Iya Ruka,” Alhaja Ajoke had been on the NDLEA's wanted list for years. Her arrest followed the interception of a truck carrying 44 jumbo sacks of imported cannabis weighing 1,540 kilograms. The truck, driven by her employee, Abideen Adio.
Alhaja Ajoke who wasoutwardly operated as a fabric and shoe importer, was revealed to lead a drug cartel based in Mushin. She also holds the title of "Iyalaje" in an influential Lagos women's social club.
In another operation, NDLEA officers arrested Nollywood and Hollywood filmmaker Emeka Emmanuel Mbadiwe on December 27, 2024, in his hotel room in Lekki. His partner, Uzoekwe Ugochukwu James,
