The promotion spree in the Nigeria Police as approved by the Police Service Commission has brought new ranks for many officers and glad tidings into many homes this Yuletide season.

Among them is the Divisional Police officer of Iponri division under the Area C Police Command of Lagos State Police Command, SP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye now elevated to the next rank as Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP), Crimewatchnewspaper report.

The new CSP, Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye has over the years and in various capacities displayed remarkable prowess, deep intelligence, and intense passion for the policing job.

The eloquent and elegant officer also matches and advocates civility with professionalism in all of her endeavors. For her good works, she has been greatly appreciated by the community whom she served.

Just before this recent promotion, in her current role as the DPO of Iponri division, the Police officers and men under the leadership of Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye arrested four (4) suspected robbers identified as Akeem Alabi ‘m’, Adewale Sogbesan ‘m’, Emmanuel Izeagbe ‘m’, and Francis Okoko ‘m’ on the 10th of December 2024. The suspects, upon their arrest, confessed to being members of a robbery syndicate operating around the Costain axis of Lagos State.

In her previous role as DPO of Ilupeju division where she served for about 2 years, she became the beloved of the entire community for her inclusive policing leadership. The government and people of Odi-Olowo LCDA, the Ilupeju PCRC, big organizations, and Indian community always hailed her during her tenure as their DPO.

She unravelled the case of a popular interstate child kidnapping case which came to the notice of the then Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade who is now the AIG in charge of Zone 2 Police Command comprising Lagos and Ogun States. Interestingly, AIG Adegoke Fayoade was a one-time DPO of the Ilupeju division.

In a forum, the Vice-Chairman, Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Oluwaseyi Jakande hailed her as ‘a woman that has been ensuring that everyone under her jurisdiction are able to sleep with their two eyes closed. A woman who believes in proactive policing rather than being reactive. All law-abiding citizens of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA with particular reference to Ilupeju division will agree with me that since she came on board, she has introduced strategies to reduce crime to lowest ebb within and beyond Ilupeju. We acknowledge the positive role you have played in Odi-Olowo. We will never take it for granted.’

The former Deputy PRO of Lagos State Police Command, Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye is a firm believer in human rights but also believes that its exercise by the citizenry should be tempered with responsibility and respect for others including the men and officers of the Police.

The savvy spokesperson who served under the leadership of AIG Hakeem Odumosu (retd) always speaks up for her job noting that policing is ‘passion and compassion combined’. At a Miss Security Nigeria event organised by Trek Africa Newspaper, CSP Matilda Umiah Ngbaronye added that ‘being in the uniform gives me a superhuman feeling because I know being able to lay your life for your country and humanity is the best job that anyone can have.’

As the elegant Matilda steps into this new rank, it is expected that the joy will propel her to do more which will doubtless lead to more and more promotions in the Nigeria Police Force.
