On Saturday 30th, 2024, the American University of Peace and Governance USA hosted its inaugural African Strategic Leadership Lecture on Peace, Good Governance, and National Security at the prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Lagos State Nigeria. 


The landmark event & lecture by Distinguished Brig. Gen. (Dr) Babatunde Solomons Kumapayi (Rtd) FCIPG(USA) brought together esteemed speakers from various sectors, including Top Military Personels, renowned scholars, and civil society leaders, who shared their insights on the intricate relationship between peace, governance, and national security. The discussions highlighted the pressing need for strategic leadership in addressing Nigeria's multifaceted challenges, including conflict resolution, democratic governance, and sustainable development.


H. E, Amb. Dr Jonathan Ojadah, Chairman Of the AUPG Senate, in his welcome Speech emphasized the importance of continued dialogue and partnership among African nations to build resilient institutions and promote sustainable peace. 

 'I offer my deepest gratitude to the Almighty, the all-knowing God, for inspiring the vision that has come to fruition and for sustaining this esteemed institution, which continues to play a pivotal role on the global stage.'  On behalf of the Senate and Academic Council of the University, I extend a heartfelt welcome to all our distinguished guests—Excellencies, Ambassadors, and Fellows. We are honored by your presence today and deeply appreciative of your support.'  he stated. 

He furthered stressed that *"Today is a momentous day—one that we will remember for years to come. It serves as a reminder that obstacles are not merely challenges but opportunities for growth. As the saying goes, The obstacles in the path become the path."*... 


He went on to quote the Bible diving Into  the words of Proverbs 16:16, *"To have wisdom and understanding is better than to have silver or gold."* While material wealth can bring temporary joy, there are few things as enduring or as valuable as education. 'Education is not only a lifelong gift but a force that continuously shapes and improves us as individuals." 

He Concluded his speech  by extending his heartfelt congratulations to all our awardees. saying their achievements are  inspiration to everyone in the society. 


One of the key highlights of the event was the Award of Honorary Doctorate, Investiture Of CIPG FELLOWs and  Ambassador Of Peace presented to Reputable Personalities including Nollywood Celebrities  in recognition of their outstanding contributions to peacebuilding and governance in Nigeria. The award ceremony was a poignant reminder of the impact that dedicated individuals can have on fostering a culture of peace and good governance.
