IRATE YOUTHS PREVENTED FROM BURNING FAMILY HOUSE OVER GAY PRACTICE
Tragedy was averted recently in Umunnowa Village in Eziama Obaire in Nkwere Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria, when irate youths were prevented from burning down the family house of Donatus Chukwuaku for the offence of Homosexuality (Gay) committed on 15th of February 2023, by his escaped younger brother named David Chigaemezu Chukwuaku, aged 32.
David who was born on the 27th of February, 1992, was suspected to have had carnal knowledge of his fellow male friend from another community.
While his friend escaped arrest, David was unlucky as he was caught by the youths and paraded naked with all manner of fetish decorations, including dried leaves, live tortoise, toad, and a day old chick, among other local paraphernalia.
He was paraded round the market place called Nkwo-Eziama Market 10 times as required by tradition and was beaten mercilessly, among other varied degrees of torture.
The youth were however further infuriated when David who was kept in the palace of His Royal Highness, the Igwe of Eziama Obaire community pending the continuation of the sacrifice to appease the gods the following day, was discovered to have escaped.
On further inquiry, it was discovered that his escape was facilitated by his elder brother, Donatus Chukwuaku and his cousin who lives in U.S.A, they allegedly bribed the security men who allowed him to escape.
Note that the offence of Gay, sex of same sex and marriage of the same sex are abomination in the community and attracts a severe punishment such as castration, parading such man or woman naked within the whole town and market place, and a heavy fine as a deterrent to others. Not all culprits survive the sacrifice and the ritual. It is also an offence to aid such an offender to escape.
More worrisome is the belief by the villagers that the rampant sicknesses, diseases such as cholera, Lassa fever, measles, Mpox, misfortunes in the community, sudden deaths in the village are related to the non-performance of the mandatory ritual by David who was accused of homosexuality considered a sacrilege in the community
On the morning of 11 of October, 2024, the village was awaken by the war songs of the angry youths of Eziama Obaire numbering hundreds marching menacingly onto the house of Donatus Chukwuaku to burn it down because the family have not produced their son to face his penalty. Luckily a member of the family, Nwaimo Christian, a retired police officer and a lawyer with phone number, +234 706 824 4243 was around to prevent the youths from achieving their goal. The retired police officer was said to have quickly put up a call to the Police Divisional Headquarters in Nkwere who rushed to the scene in Hilux but met no one as the mob left in fury boasting to come back.
David Chigaemezu Chukwuaku who was suspected to have escaped to abroad is still being awaited by the youths and elders to return and complete his mandatory sacrifices for the peace, good health and tranquility in the land
This reporter physically met the retired police officer/Lawyer, Onyekachi Donatus who confirmed the attack and the danger awaiting Mr David Chigaemezu Chukwuaku if he eventually returned to the community.
Nwaimo Christian who said he is equally a former President General of the community said, “The offence is a sacrilege, an abomination in the community and a capital offence in Nigeria as Nigeria has failed to join western world that encourages same sex marriage/sex.”
The Igwe of the community was however not available when his palace was visited by this journalist.
The elders in the community vehemently maintain that David will never escape the punishment. “The gods are angry. The whereabouts of Mr. David Chigaemezu Chukwuaku is still unknown.”
