PORT HARCOURT – There was pandemonium in Edeoha Community, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State in the early hours of Sunday as gunmen suspected to be cultists, killed four residents during an attack.

Our correspondent learnt that residents of the community during the attack ran helter skelter for their lives as many sustained various degrees of injuries following the pandemonium.

It was gathered that the gunmen suspected to be members of the Iceland cult group, invaded the community around 2am, bearing sophisticated weapons, shooting carelessly as they moved round the community in search of their targets.

Community sources revealed to our correspondent that three of the victims were natives of Edeoha community, while one is from Ikata community in Aboada East LGA but resides in Edeoha community.

Daily Independent further learnt that the assailants attacked from their hideout in a neighbouring community forest.

A native of the community who pleaded anonymity over security concerns, disclosed that the deceased persons were not cultists, adding that their killing may have been ordered by some yet to be identified individuals.

Our correspondent who visited the area, observed that Edeoha community is accessible by road from Nbaima-Ahoada highway and surrounded by creeks and rivers, making it easy for hoodlums to access and carry out an attack.

When contacted, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Mustapha had ordered an investigation and arrest of the perpetrators.

She said: “Yes I can confirm the incident, it is cult related.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Mustapha has instructed the Ahoada Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to commence investigation into the incident with a view to apprehending the perpetrators and making them face justice”
