Top Politician evicted from Abuja residence as Wife uses Property as collateral for loan

Ewaoche Benjamin Obe, a former governorship candidate for the African Action Congress in the 2023 Benue State elections, has been evicted from his Abuja residence after his wife allegedly used the property as collateral for a loan.

Reports indicate that the house, located in the Sagwari Layout of Dutse, Bwari Area Council, was constructed by Obe.

His wife, Christiana Obe, who has been married to him since 2006, is said to have taken the loan without his knowledge.

On September 25, 2024, while traveling to Benue State, Obe received a call informing him that security operatives were at his home initiating an eviction.

Furious, he returned only to find military personnel and police officers at the scene, with his belongings scattered outside.

He was presented with a court document stating that the house had been confiscated due to an outstanding loan taken by his wife.

Obe expressed his frustration while speaking to CRIME WATCH NEWSPAPER stating that he had not been informed about any court proceedings prior to the eviction.

While lamenting the situation, he said: “This is a house I built with my hard-earned money.”

He also mentioned that his wife had taken their son away to an undisclosed location before the incident occurred.

When asked if he had been contacted regarding the loan, Obe denied any prior knowledge of it and criticised the lack of notification before the eviction.

“I was never served. This was plotted by my wife and the officers that came. We have been having issues for a while and I think this is her best way of getting at me,” he said.

Reports indicate that Christiana Obe, an officer in the Nigerian Air Force, had removed several items from the home, including air conditioners, before the eviction occurred.

Obe stated that he chose not to question her to avoid a confrontation.

Meanwhile, the court documents that were acquired were also presented during the eviction.

According to these papers, the claimant asserted that they had been living in the duplex as tenants.

family member who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Ewaoche (Obe) has invested a lot in this woman, even the job she currently has came from him. He saw this woman through school and has invested in her life in so many other ways. How do you connive with external persons to bring down a man you have lived with for more than two decades? How?.

“From the look of things, it is clear this is a clear case of oppression. Assuming this happened to a woman, we will say is because na woman. This is a direct opposite. How can wife take a loan without informing the husband? Why did the lender not call to get details from property owner? Who values a house without a man who owns it? Something is seriously missing in all these.

“We gathered that the court papers are all fake and the people commissioned to carry out the eviction were mobilized illegally. We want the Air Force and the police to investigate the officers in the video.”
