The Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare, has initiated an investigation into the alleged murder of Mrs. Ogechukwu Okafor by her husband, Mr. Elijah. The incident, which reportedly occurred on August 13, 2024, was brought to the ministry's attention by the deceased's family due to suspicious behavior exhibited by the husband.
The media aide to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, revealed this information in a press statement issued on Wednesday. The accused, identified as a pastor, allegedly committed the crime in Nimo community within Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The deceased's uncle, Mr. Samuel Onuorah, from Abatete community, accompanied by other family members, lodged the complaint with the ministry. They disputed the husband's claim that Ogechukwu fell from a four-story building, asserting instead that she was killed by Elijah using a knife to stab her neck and chest.
In response, Commissioner Ify Obinabo urged various stakeholders, including women's groups, human rights activists, and social media users, to rally behind the government's quest for justice for the deceased. She assured that the state government would thoroughly investigate the matter and involve the governor to ensure justice is served.
