First Lady promises Justice after Husband allegedly attempted to pluck Wife’s eyes from sockets
Priscilla Otti, the wife of Abia State’s governor, has called for justice for Amarachi Lawrence, a housewife whose husband allegedly tried to gouge out her eyes in Atta, Emede Ibeku, Umuahia, the state capital.
Mrs. Otti made this appeal after visiting Amarachi at the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia, where she donated an undisclosed sum to support the woman’s treatment.
During her visit, Mrs. Otti aimed to evaluate Amarachi’s condition, which had resulted in severe injuries, and to explore potential state government assistance for her recovery.
She emphasized that “Investigations are still in progress. The government is focused on ascertaining the truth of the matter. And I promise that everyone involved will be brought to book.”
Mrs. Otti also urged for increased community involvement to combat gender-based violence in the state and praised the traditional ruler of the area, Eze Allen Okpokiri, and local youth for their prompt response to the incident.
She had previously assured the monarch and local residents that the government would ensure the case would not be ignored.
In response to queries about Amarachi’s condition, Onyemaobi Aisha, the director of nursing services at the Federal Medical Centre, confirmed that the woman was receiving medical care but noted that only an eye specialist could provide details on the status of her eyes.
Lovejane Nwiwu, the couple’s landlady, provided an eyewitness account, explaining that she was alerted to the situation by the woman’s cries for help.
She noted that prior to the incident, Lawrence Chukwunyere and his wife had appeared to live harmoniously, and it remains unclear what led to the altercation.
