BREAKING; Judge withdraws from Nnamdi Kanu’s trial, hands over case file

Story by Iyiola Ayomide

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has withdrawn from the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following his claims of lost confidence in her.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, Kanu interrupted his lawyer, Aloy Ejimako, and took control of the court session, declaring he no longer trusted the judge and demanding her immediate withdrawal from the case.

Despite objections from the federal government’s lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, Justice Nyako chose to recuse herself.

Awomolo argued that the trial should continue based on a Supreme Court judgment, but Justice Nyako stated that another judge should handle the case.

She then ordered the case file to be returned to the Chief Judge, John Tsoho, for reassignment.

Kanu was subsequently returned to DSS custody.
