I shot him because I met him in uncompromising position with my Woman — Suspect confesses

A local hunter, Joseph Ajegba, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly shooting his friend after discovering him in a compromising situation with a woman Ajegba was involved with.

The incident occurred in Ikun-Akoko, a community in the Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Ajegba, who now faces charges of attempted murder, reportedly acted in a fit of rage after catching his friend in bed with the woman, a mother of three.

According to the 38-year-old suspect, he had spent the previous night at the woman’s house after returning from a hunting trip. He had rented the apartment for her and had even dropped off bush meat from his latest hunt before heading out again

Upon his return, Ajegba was shocked to find his friend engaging in sexual relations with the woman he considered his partner. Fueled by anger and betrayal, he allegedly shot his friend in response.

Ajegba explained that he had been in a relationship with the woman, who is divorced, and was outraged to discover his friend was also involved with her. His arrest has brought the case to the attention of local authorities, who are now investigating the matter further.

He said: “I went out hunting after I have taken some bottles of beer. but I ran out of cartridges. I wanted to return to my girlfriend’s house to sleep there.

“When I got there, I saw the door locked. I now went to the window and I opened it and saw a co-hunter sleeping with my girlfriend. That was why I shot the gun in my hand.”

While parading the hunter, the state Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, said: “On the 23rd of August, 2024 at about 2300hrs, a case of attempted murder was reported to the Police, the victim went to his friend who is a divorcee in her house.

“One, Ajegba Joseph, a hunter aged 38 years who is also having an affair with the woman, went to visit her on the same day in possession of an unlicensed single-barrel gun.

“However, upon sighting the victim with the woman in bed, the suspect shot the victim through the window side.

Speaking on other crimes, the police boss said: “In another act of violence, on August 11, 2024, a commercial motorcyclist was attacked while simply trying to earn his daily bread.

“Contracted to carry a passenger to Oke-Agbe, Adeferati Road in Akungba Akoko, the motorcyclist was ambushed by the passenger and two others who emerged from the bushes.

“Shot in the thigh, he was left for dead as they fled with his motorcycle. Fortunately, the victim survived and was able to identify one of his attackers, leading to the arrest of Saheed Musa, a member of the Neo Black Movement (Aiye Confraternity).”
