The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olatunde Maku has reaffirmed his commitment to combating illegal mining activities, vandalism of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure , unlicensed private security outfits , illegal dealings on petroleum products and petroleum products black market racketeering in Anambra State.
Comdt. Maku made this declaration on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 when he received on a courtesy call Prof. Mathias Ananti, Deputy Vice Chancellor; Administration, Prof. Osita Chiaghanam, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, and Dr. Ofozoba Chinonso, Special Assistant to Vice- Chancellor on Allied Matters, all of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam at the NSCDC Headquarters in Awka.
During the visit, Commandant Maku reiterated his commitment to delivering on the Corps' mandate, protecting lives and property, ensuring citizens' safety and security, and safeguarding Critical Infrastructure spread across the state.
The NSCDC State helmsman highlighted his modest accomplishments, including successful anti-sit-at-home operations, several arrests of both operators of illegal private security outfits and those engaging in illegal mining, eradication of adulterated petroleum products and black market racketeering.
He commended the Commandant General of NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for operational support accorded the Command, enabling it to achieve these feats in line with the NSCDC Core mandates.
Earlier, Professor Ananti intimated the State Commandant of the University's move to foster an eco-friendly environment for academic studies through a Tree planting programme aimed at combating climate change and restoring biodiversity.
Prof. Ananti on behalf of the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Professor Kate Omenugha invited the State Commandant to the University forthcoming Climate Change Summit and Tree Planting Awareness Campaign.
He praised Commandant Maku's leadership and commitment to the Corps' mandate, and expressed their support for the NSCDC's efforts.
"We are impressed with the progress the Anambra State Command of NSCDC has made under your leadership.We are confident that the Corps will continue to excel in its duties." he said.
The visit concluded with assurances from both the NSCDC and the University to strengthen their partnership and collaborate on enhancing security and promoting a healthy environment for the University community.
