The Kaduna State Police Command reported that its officers from the Mobile Police Unit killed two suspected bandits during a shootout and recovered two AK-47 rifles from them.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, the incident occurred on Saturday morning when the bandits tragically killed a 60-year-old resident, Isiyaka Mikailu, while he was working on his farm in Kuriga Town.

Hassan stated that the Mobile Police Unit commander, deployed to Kuriga on special duty by the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, received information from a reliable source about the incident. A team of Mobile Policemen and local hunters was then mobilized to the scene.

Upon arrival, the team engaged in a gun battle with the bandits. Two of the bandits, identified as Yusuf from Rugar Mai Chakun of Kuriga Village and an unidentified accomplice, were neutralized during the confrontation. The police team recovered two AK-47 rifles and seventeen rounds of live ammunition from the suspects.

Sadly, Mikailu was taken to the Primary Health Care Center in Kuriga, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor. His remains were subsequently handed over to his relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.

The police commissioner, Mr. Ali Dabigi, has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police, as the team continues to be on high alert to prevent further incidents.
