Four Police officers, FRSC personnel shot dead by gunmen in fresh attack
Just a day after the fatal attack on two policemen during a stop-and-search operation near the Government House, in Enugu State, gunmen have attacked two operatives each of the Nigeria Police Force and Federal Road Safety Corps at Orba and Eha-Alumona in Udenu and Nsukka Local Government Areas of the State on Saturday.
Reports from Crimewatchnewspaper indicated that the assault began at Premier Junction in Nsukka LG and extended to the Army checkpoint in Udenu LG, resulting in the deaths of four personnel and injuries to others.
The perpetrators also targeted the Hilux van of the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla Community, setting it ablaze, along with an FRSC vehicle.
The monarch, who was reportedly caught, in the web of the attack, miraculously escaped unhurt.The gunmen also burnt an FRSC van during the carnage.
Meanwhile, when the state Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu, was contacted for his comments on the incident, he said, “I am not aware of the incident. Please contact the Police Public Relations Officer on that.”
Despite attempts to reach the state Police Spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe, for comment, no response was received.
However, Governor Peter Mbah has pledged to utilize all available resources to apprehend the assailants responsible for the tragic incident
