Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Daniel Sokari Pedro, who represents the South-South geopolitical zone, paid a working visit to the Delta State Police Command on May 22, 2024. The purpose of the visit was to boost the morale of the officers, enhance police-community relations, and assure the residents of the state about the force's commitment to ensuring a safer Delta State.
Before the commencement of his tour, the DIG, who is the most senior police officer in the South-South region and also the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology of the Nigeria Police Force, accompanied by the AIG Zone 5, AIG Arungwa Nwazue Udo, paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Delta State, RT Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, at the Government House in Asaba. The DIG acknowledged the state government's immense assistance to the police force in the state and sought more support from the state government and the people of Delta State.
In response, the Governor appreciated the leadership of the police force, particularly the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for recognizing some officers in the state with awards. He noted that the awards are a testament to the police's dedication to ensuring the state's safety and security. The Governor also promised to provide vehicles for the police that will be commissioned by the Inspector General of Police.
The DIG then proceeded to the venue of the meeting with stakeholders and officers of the command. During the interaction with the stakeholders, the DIG emphasized the importance of community partnership in policing, as policing has become everyone's responsibility in recent times.
After the interaction with the stakeholders, the DIG addressed the officers and men of the command. He warned them against extortion, abuse of human rights, and the importance of policing with a human face. He encouraged the officers to brace up and address the security challenges in the state, while being mindful of the fundamental human rights of the citizens. The DIG also emphasized the importance of following the extant rules of the force, as stipulated in Force Order 237 and Force Order 88, when using firearms. He commended the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, for his efforts in fighting crime, noting that the achievements within the very short time have been commendable.
