A Sharia Court has ordered a man, Abdullahi Sani, to be stoned to death having been found guilty of engaging in homosexual activity in Bauchi State.
Crimewatchnewspaper reports that it was the judgment of a Sharia Court in Ningi Local Government Area of the North East State, which convicted and sentenced Sani, who is from Unguwar Makara Huta area of the State, to death for the dastardly act.
The Presiding Judge, Abdullahi Aliyu Doya, handed down the judgment during a Court session on 10th May, 2024, after finding Sani guilty of the offence as charged.
The Sharia Judge, Doya, held that the Court commenced hearing on the case on 02/05/2024 and closed it on Thursday, 09/05/2024, for judgment and sentence, after listening to various arguments.
He explained that based on witness testimonies and the defendant’s admission of guilty, Abdullahi Sani was found guilty and sentenced to death by stoning in accordance with the provisions of Sections 131, 132, and 133 of the Bauchi State Administration of Criminal Justice, 2001.
It was not the first time the Sharia Court was convicting and sentencing people to death by stoning on similar offence. It will be recalled that on 1st July, 2022, a Sharia Court delivered judgment and sentenced three people to death by stoning for a similar offence.
The implications of the judgment is that the convict will be stoned till he dies before the corpse will be taken away for burial in fulfillment of the Sharia Law.
