Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a 27-year-old security guard, Meshack Monday, after he was seen fleeing with a customer's car that was parked at the company he was working for.
The suspect was apprehended by the police officers in the Olu Obasanjo Division on Thursday, May 2, around 12:45 am. The officers noticed him driving a Toyota Corolla car in a suspicious manner and saw him maneuver the vehicle to evade them near the G.R.A. junction, leading to a chase and his eventual capture.
During the interrogation, Monday, who is a native of Ogoni and a security officer at Geepap Mobile Company, confessed to the crime. He revealed that he had been hiding his driving skills since he started working at the company two years ago.
he succumbed to the temptation of stealing a customer's car that was parked for maintenance, with the intention of selling it and improving his living conditions.
The Geepap General Manager, Mr. Godfrey, confirmed that the suspect's unknown driving ability was the reason he was able to steal the vehicle while it was undergoing repairs at the company.
The suspect's arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, urged individuals to install security cameras and alarms to prevent such incidents outside of the working hours
The suspect has been charged to court, and the police are still investigating to apprehend any accomplices involved in the car theft ring.
