The Rivers State Police Command has detained 13 individuals, which includes four soldiers, on suspicion of armed robbery, seizing food trucks, and rerouting them to different locations. Additionally, a member of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps was also apprehended.
According to Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Command, the arrests followed a comprehensive investigation initiated after authorities initially apprehended individuals for suspected break-ins at a private warehouse in Elimgbu, situated in the Ohio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State.
Iringe-Koko indicated that two of the initial detainees deserted their assigned posts in Delta and Kogi States to partake in criminal acts in Rivers State. Their admissions resulted in the identification and arrest of other personnel and civilian accomplices. The four soldiers and the NSCDC operative acknowledged their involvement in the crimes.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday, the spokesperson stated, "Upon conducting inquiries subsequent to the attempted break-ins, the Rivers State Police Command uncovered a wide array of unlawful activities. At around 11 pm on March 4, 2024, the Command was notified of a group of burglars trying to vandalize warehouses owned by Mr. Emmanuel Nwangwu and Mrs. Ndifreke Ekanem in Elimgbu."
