The Kogi State Police Command has successfully rescued five kidnapped victims from the Adogo Forest. This operation was announced by SP Williams Ovye-Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer.
During the rescue mission, the police recovered an AK-47 rifle from the kidnappers' hideout in the Akpa Local Government Area. Ovye-Aya praised the successful operation and quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, who reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Kogi.
The rescue operation was carried out by the Nigeria Police Force's Adogo Division, led by SP Yusuf Hantsi, in collaboration with local vigilantes on Thursday.
Investigations revealed that the five victims were earlier kidnapped on May 17 while travelling along the Ajaokuta-Adogo road in the Aresuare Area of Ajaokuta Local Government. The police operatives combed the bush, invaded the kidnappers' camp, and engaged the hoodlums in a gunfight. The criminals eventually abandoned their victims and fled, but the police were able to recover the AK-47 rifle.
In a separate incident, the police received a tip-off about armed hoodlums in an unregistered golden-colored Muzzle Camry, who had driven to the Ojode area in Ankpa and started shooting sporadically, killing one person and injuring another. The Divisional Police Officer of Ankpa, CSP Chikamnele Amaralam, mobilized his team and engaged the criminals in a gunfight, leading to the abandonment of the AK-47 rifle with breech number 354951 and two live rounds of ammunition.
The police spokesperson, Ovye-Aya, urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the security operatives for prompt action.
