The Delta State Police Command has arrested three men who falsely accused some of its officers of stealing their gold chains, which they claimed were worth 50 million naira (₦50m). The incident occurred during a stop-and-search operation.
According to the command spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, the trio were stopped and searched by members of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS). After the search, the men were allowed to go. However, later that evening, they returned and alleged that their gold worth ₦50m had been stolen by the policemen.
Edafe explained that the policemen were wrongly humiliated for simply doing their job. However, the full story is that the gold chains were later found in the possession of the suspects when they came back to the RRS office to accuse the officers of theft.
