The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reaffirmed its dedication to combatting cyber crimes, emphasizing that these crimes pose a significant threat to national development.
The EFCC's Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, expressed this commitment during a visit from Interpol. Olukoyede highlighted that cyber crime has become one of the world's largest contributors to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), underscoring the need for collaboration and information sharing among countries and law enforcement agencies.
The EFCC has been actively engaged in prosecuting cyber criminals, securing over 500 convictions in recent months.
Olukoyede also emphasized the agency's willingness to collaborate with international partners in combating this global security threat.
The leader of the Interpol delegation, Mr. Craig Jones, echoed these sentiments, noting that cyber crimes have significant financial and security implications for nations worldwide.
He disclosed that Interpol is working with private partners to detect and dismantle criminal networks involved in fraud.
Furthermore, discussions are underway to negotiate a CyberCrimes Convention with the United Nations Organization to garner broader global support in the fight against cyber crime.
