Armed operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are currently in a standoff with the Nigerian Police, who are attached to former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.
The EFCC arrived at Bello's residence in Abuja to arrest him on corruption charges, but the police and Bello's loyalists have gathered there and vowed to resist the EFCC's attempts to arrest him.
Bello has been under investigation by the EFCC for alleged misappropriation of public funds, and he had obtained an interim injunction to prevent his arrest, detention, or prosecution.
The EFCC has appealed this order, arguing that the trial court lacked jurisdiction and that granting the order would allow Bello to escape investigation and possible prosecution.
They are requesting the appeal court to set aside the order.
