The Inspector General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun, commenced a three-day official trip to Ogun, during which he gave his approval for the establishment of additional area commands in Ifo, Imeko, and Idi-Iroko areas of the state. Egbetokun, accompanied by the Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Zone ll, Olatoye Durosimi, and the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Abiodun Alamutu, arrived at the command's headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
In his address to stakeholders and the rank-and-file of the police, Egbetokun urged officers of the command to increase their efforts in combating crime in the state. However, he called for more support for the police to effectively fight crime. He granted the request for an area command in Ifo, and also announced the creation of two area commands in the border areas of Idi-Iroko and Imeko.
Egbetokun assured that the needs of the command, including manpower, vehicles, and operational logistics, would be attended to. He emphasized the commitment to stopping kidnapping in Ogun state, while acknowledging that the few crimes being committed do not affect the state's peaceful status.
Alamutu, in his earlier remarks, highlighted that Ogun remains one of the safest states in Nigeria despite security challenges. He expressed optimism that the visit of the I-G would motivate officers and improve service delivery. Egbetokun then inaugurated the newly built Main Office, the Technical Intelligence Unit, and the Complaints Unit at the police command. The I-G is also scheduled to visit the paramount rulers of Egba, Ijebu, Remo, and Yewa during his three-day stay in the state.
