Crimewatchnewspaper reports that the suspect, Shola, of Kwamba Suleja, Niger State, was charged for criminal breach of trust, intimidation and defamation of character before an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, Abuja.
The Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko, told the Court that the complainant, Barnabas Janet, of old Kutunku Gwagwalada reported the matter at the Gwagwalada Police Station on 17th April, 2024.
Tanko stated that the defendant and complainant had been in a relationship since 2021, and they both agreed to have some private pictures and videos and agreed not to make them public.
However, when the complainant opted out of the relationship, the defendant threatened to post the private images on the social media, which he eventually did against the complainant’s wish.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provision of Sections 312, 397, and 391 of the Penal Code, which attracts several years of imprisonment.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned.
The Presiding Judge, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkarim, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1m with one responsible surety in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and addresses verified by the Court.
The Court also ordered that the surety should reside within the Court’s jurisdiction and provide valid means of identification.
The matter was adjourned till 4th June, 2024, for hearing while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional centre pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
