‘I have followed your trajectory as a fine, accomplished, and diligent officer of the law for quite a while till your retirement in 2023. I am overjoyed and thankful to the President for finding you worthy for this role.’ ‘The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has called you out of retirement. Nigeria needs you. I want to urge you to continue to fly on this new role’, said the Chairman/CEO of Executive Group, Dr. Ogunsan. ‘The problem of small arms and light weapons is central to the insecurity we are grappling with in this country. Please bring all your expertise and experience to bear. I wish you success’, Ogunsan concluded. The new Coordinator of NACSALW, DIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo rtd who will report to the Office of National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu was until his retirement in 2023, the DIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Abuja.
Before that role, DIG Johnson Kokumo rtd was the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja. Also, the excellence-driven and effective administrator, Kokumo proved to be a superb operational officer in the Nigeria Police as a one-time Commissioner of Police in Edo state and Assistant Inspector-General in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos. It is expected that he will infuse fresh vigour into the agency saddled with the control of small arms and light weapons. He is expected to evolve strategies which will bring lasting solutions to the menace of arms proliferation in the country.
