NDLEA Seizes 44,948kg Drugs, 11 Vehicles, Busts Cocaine, Heroin, Meth Syndicates, Arrests Four Kingpins

In massive raids across Lagos, Edo, and Ondo states, NDLEA agents seized over 44,948.1 kilogrammes (44.9 tonnes) of illicit drugs, 11 vehicles owned by drug cartels, and arrested eight suspects.

The spokesman of the anti-narcotics agency, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Sunday that while a total of 7,687.8 kilogrammes of cannabis was destroyed in a warehouse in Ala forest, Akure, Ondo state, with another 670 kilogrammes evacuated last Saturday, no less than 14,310.9 kilogrammes of the same psychoactive substance was razed on 5.7 hectares of farms in Ohosu/Ugbogui forest, Ovia South West local government area of Edo State last Tuesday, where five suspects, including 67

He stated that in another operation in the Uzebba/Avbiosi forest last Thursday, over 6,500 kilogrammes of cannabis were destroyed on 2.6 hectares of farms, and three suspects were arrested: Kabiru Idris, 36; Alaba Jimoh, 40; and Lekan Asobere, 35.

According to Babafemi, 5,000 kilogrammes of the same substance were destroyed in a warehouse in Okpuje forest, Owan West local government area, by NDLEA operatives with military support last Friday.

A well-coordinated operation in Lagos last Wednesday resulted in the seizure of 10,534 kilogrammes (10.5 tonnes) of Ghanaian Loud, a strain of cannabis, in the state’s Ajah area, where 11 vehicles belonging to the drug cartel were seized. The recovered vehicles include: Iveco truck marked KRD 522 YE; Toyota sienna marked AAA 338 GL; Toyota sienna marked AAA 308 EP; Toyota sienna marked FKJ 381 JC; Nissan bus marked EKY 846 YG;

 Mercedes bus marked EPE 743 XT; an unmarked Iveco J5 bus; Toyota sienna marked LSD 744 GP; Toyota highlander SUV marked KTU 280 FN; Toyota sienna marked AAA 333 GH; and Toyota sienna marked FKJ 208 HV.

Miracle Obi, a suspect, was arrested last Friday in the Ago Palace Way area of Lagos state with 1,006 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 50 tablets of tramadol 225mg, 89 bottles of codeine syrup, and 2,360 ampoules of diazepam injection. Another suspect, Kareem Mustapha, was apprehended earlier last Tuesday on the Lagos-Ibadan motorway with 25,000 tramadol pills and 5,900 ampoules of pentazocine injection.

Babafemi said: While 58 kilogrammes of cannabis were discovered in Jagindi village, Kafanchan local government area, Kaduna State last Friday, NDLEA operatives arrested Abdulqadir Muhammad, 34, with 45 Mercedes bus marked EPE 743 XT; an unmarked Iveco J5 bus; Toyota sienna marked LSD 744 GP; Toyota highlander SUV marked KTU 280 FN; Toyota sienna marked AAA 333 GH; and Toyota sienna marked FKJ 208 HV.

Salisu Yusuf, 20, was arrested with 30 kilogrammes of Arizona, a strain of cannabis, at the Njimtilo checkpoint in Borno state on Saturday, while Rabiu Husseini, 27, was arrested with 34 kilogrammes of cannabis on the Gwagwalada/Abuja highway on his way from Lagos to Katsina state last Wednesday.

On Friday, NDLEA officers on patrol along the Gashua-Baymari road in Busari local government area, Yobe state, apprehended Haladu Hassan with 160 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 50 kg.

According to him, a cocaine and heroin syndicate in Kano state was successfully dismantled with the arrest of 42-year-old Onyeka Uba in Kano’s Sabon Gari area last Monday, where 1.805 kilogrammes and

Another suspect, 49-year-old Ubale Sani, was arrested with 51.5 kilogrammes of cannabis in Kano’s Chiromawa area.

According to the spokesman, NDLEA special operations officers disrupted the criminal activities of another cocaine syndicate in Abuja over the weekend, arresting three of the group’s leaders. Nnajiofor Celestine Kenechukwu, 41, and Okoro Chigozie Christian, 35, were apprehended last Friday at Paint House Hotel, Umar Garba Benna Street, 21 Road, First Avenue, Gwarimpa, Abuja, with 718 grammes of cocaine.

He stated that a follow-up operation at Okoro Chigozie’s residence at House 30, 69B Road 6th Avenue Gwarimpa resulted in the recovery of 19 blocks of Arizona, a strain of cannabis weighing 9.823 kilogrammes, and monetary exhibits worth N545,500 and $250, as well as property documents. They also recovered two vehicles: a 2007 Toyota Camry marked BWR 94 BM and a 2012 Toyota Camry marked RBC 154 BS.

He stated that another follow-up operation to Nnajiofor Celestine Kenechukwu’s residence at 49 Mercy Orjiakor Street, Becky Estate 11, Karu, Nasarawa state, last Saturday resulted in the recovery of various quantities of Arizona and methamphetamine, as well as the arrest of his girlfriend and accomplice, Ifemenam Oge.


He noted that the agency’s various commands across the country had continued the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy campaign with the same zeal in the previous week.

Meanwhile, while congratulating the officers and men of the Lagos, Edo, Ondo, Kano, Borno, Kaduna, and FCT Commands, as well as the agency’s Special Operations unit, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Retd), praised their counterparts in all commands across the country for intensifying their WADA advocacy lectures in schools, markets, motor parks, worship centres, and workplaces.
