Story by Iyiola Ayomide

Former Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase, has vehemently denied allegations of bribery and corruption in a recent publication by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR). The publication insinuated that Dr. Arase benefited financially from the sale of police barracks in Mbora District, Abuja during his tenure as the Inspector General of Police between 2015-2016.

In a detailed response, Dr. Arase clarified that he was never involved in any corrupt activities related to the mentioned project or any other public service engagements. He highlighted his commitment to improving the welfare of police officers by implementing affordable housing schemes, such as the Nigeria Police Force Property Development and Construction Company Ltd. (NPFPDCCL), which completed various housing projects under his leadership.

The disputed project, a Joint Venture initiative with Messrs Corpran International Limited, involved the development of a Police Housing Scheme in Mbora District, Abuja. Dr. Arase emphasized that the project was completed within the agreed timeline and specifications, providing housing units for both serving and retired police officers at subsidized rates.

Furthermore, a dispute arose between Messrs Corpran International Limited and Barrister Francis Mgboh, leading to legal actions. Dr. Arase condemned the attempt to smear his reputation through baseless petitions and unfounded allegations by Barrister Francis Mgboh.

Dr. Arase expressed his intention to take legal action against ICIR and their associates for the defamatory publication and has petitioned relevant law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter. He denounced the collaboration between ICIR and Barrister Francis Mgboh as an irresponsible attempt to tarnish his hard-earned public service reputation.

This rebuttal from Dr. Arase, supported by the Police Service Commission, aims to set the record straight and uphold his integrity amidst the malicious accusations. The unfolding developments may shed light on the complexities surrounding the alleged bribery scandal and the efforts to counter the false narrative propagated by the publication.
