"Disruption within the Nigeria Police Intelligence Operations"    "Fifty-four ACPs have been assigned to lead intelligence units in zonal and state Police commands across the country."

Crimewatchnewspaper reports that the aim of the announcement is to boost and improve the efficiency of the Intelligence Department within the Police Force in order to effectively tackle the crime rate in the country.

Yesterday, the Force Spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has instructed the officers to utilize all intelligence-based resources in their designated areas of responsibility to effectively combat crimes and criminal activities.

Furthermore, Egbetokun urged them to deeply embed professionalism and utilize their extensive expertise in order to enhance the current intelligence framework of the police force as they carry out their responsibilities.

Adejobi also mentioned in another statement that the general public should be aware that self-kidnapping is still considered a crime and will be met with legal consequences.

According to him, instances of self-kidnapping have been witnessed in different places, and the authorities have arrested suspects in Lagos and Abuja. Recently, a pair of individuals in Lagos were apprehended by law enforcement for their alleged involvement in a self-abduction plan, with the intention of extorting a sum of N5 million.

The spokesperson for the police force made this announcement. "After a family member reported the alleged abduction, the husband, Doubara David Yabrifa, a 53-year-old technician, and the wife, Regina Yabrifa, a 48-year-old body massager and bone setter, were caught by authorities."

"The couple admitted that they had planned the fake abduction as a means to gather N3 million in order to buy a property in Badagry, Lagos. The husband defended their actions, explaining that they were motivated by financial struggles and a lack of assistance from their family members. Consequently, both individuals were apprehended and later faced legal charges."

"Albarka Sukuya, hailing from Jenta Apata in Jos, has gained infamy for repeatedly orchestrating his own abductions and extorting money from unsuspecting individuals in the Plateau State community."

"In a similar vein, a young man named Nnamdi Agu staged his own abduction in Abuja on January 20, 2024, with the intention of deceiving a family member residing near River Park Estate, Abuja. His objective was to obtain funds for his personal indulgences."

"The suspect was apprehended by the Police promptly, preventing a staged kidnapping. It is clear that the suspect, along with numerous others, take advantage of the current prevalence of kidnapping incidents and intend to participate in fraudulent activities by staging their own abductions, solely for financial gain."

"The police authorities are issuing a warning to the public to be cautious of this growing phenomenon. Those contemplating engaging in these unlawful activities should cease, as the police will spare no effort in ensuring that such individuals face the full consequences under the law." "The Federal Capital Territory plans to prohibit the use of unpainted taxis and buses."

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, announced that the FCT Administration is planning to prohibit the use of taxis and buses that are not painted in Abuja and its surrounding areas in the near future. Yesterday, Wike informed journalists that the objective of this action is to curb occurrences of both ‘one chance’ crimes and kidnappings within the FCT. Criminals pretend to be taxi drivers and their associates in the act of "One chance" with the intention of stealing from, attacking, and occasionally killing their unsuspecting passengers.

According to Wike, the use of vehicles that do not have the designated FCT color and have not been registered by the FCTA within the territory will not be permitted. "That method ensures that the driver has obtained certification from the FCT, and the buses as well as taxes have received approval from the FCT." "When this task is completed, as a passenger, you will no longer have to take the gamble of getting into unfamiliar vehicles."

"He further mentioned that in order to operate in the FCT, Uber drivers would also be required to undergo a registration process." The minister showed worry regarding the absence of an authorized terminal in the FCT, which would enable residents to access and board commercial buses. Wike called on the residents to consistently offer crucial information to assist security agents in combating the threat of kidnappings.

"I will address each of your concerns individually, Tinubu assures individuals from the South-south region. Additionally, he urged the six Area Council chairmen to enhance the local security teams within their respective areas."

"He addressed a security town hall gathering alongside stakeholders and residents of Kwali Area Council in Kwali." The ex-governor of Rivers State pledged to guarantee a quick implementation of new security vehicles, urging the council chairmen to suggest two additional roads for reconstruction, along with the ones they had already listed.

"We assure you that we will not forsake you. Our commitment lies in the development of the area councils, and you can expect to witness significant infrastructure advancements before President Tinubu's tenure concludes." The minister asserted that they would not abandon any projects and would only undertake them if they had sufficient funding available.

Olusola Odumosu, the Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has instructed the FCT Command's officers and personnel to address the security issues in the region by implementing an intelligence framework.

"Criminals are not supernatural beings but rather individuals who reside among the diverse communities in which we exist." "We need to enhance our efforts by fully mobilizing our intelligence framework to detect these individuals and ensure they are held accountable," Odumosu conveyed this message to the officers and personnel of the command. He stated that the reason for the presence of criminals in the rural areas and outskirts of the FCT was the easily crossed borders.
