The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, NPM, has reassured Nigerians of his commitment to swiftly clamp down on criminal elements.

To combat crimes and criminality nationwide, the Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Department Tactical Team- DFI-IRT and DFI-STS have made significant progress by apprehending 67 suspects involved in various crimes such as kidnapping, gunrunning, one-chance, armed robbery, and banditry. Additionally, the Police have successfully seized 5,454 rounds of live ammunition of different calibers, 300 live cartridges, 50 empty ammunition shells, 68 rifles, and 33 different ATM cards, among other items.

One notable accomplishment is the apprehension of three individuals who are part of a gun trafficking group involved in the Christmas Eve assault on several communities in Plateau State.

Currently, they are under police custody, cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The names of the suspects are Ahmed Sulaimon, Balikisu Aliyu, and Aboki Samuel.

During their arrest, authorities were able to seize an AK-47 rifle, an AK-49 rifle, 1000 rounds of live ammunition, and 5 magazines from them. Furthermore, in relation to the bank robbery in Otukpo, four individuals have been apprehended. During the arrest, a total of nine AK-47 rifles were seized from these suspects.

Sadly, in a confrontational encounter with the police at their hideout in Taraku village, Buruku LGA of Benue State, five of the suspects met their demise due to the superior firepower of the law enforcement officers. All of the arrested suspects have admitted to their involvement in the atrocious crime and have implicated other members of their gang who are still on the run.

They have also identified Terzungwe Shionda, also known as '3-star general' (now deceased), Terlumum Pila, and an individual named Ayuko, who are currently evading capture, as the sources responsible for providing them with weapons on loan for their criminal operations.

The Police Chief emphasizes that the Police are dedicated to safeguarding the well-being and protection of our citizens through persistent efforts to combat crime and its associated activities. They will continue to exert considerable effort to ensure Nigeria remains a secure environment for all individuals.
