The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, has emphasized the Nigeria Police Force's dedication to improving the wellbeing of its staff and their families. With this objective in mind, the IGP has taken measures to establish a comprehensive standardized insurance policy for the Force, aiming to ensure high-quality service delivery.
In an effort to enhance the insurance system for Police Officers and their families, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) welcomed Mr. Sunday Thomas, the Commissioner for Insurance at the National Insurance Commission, to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, January 16th 2024. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways to cooperate in developing a strong insurance framework.
The Inspector-General of Police, on January 18th, led the distribution of insurance benefits amounting to N2,086,801,144.79k to 785 families and Next of Kin of deceased officers. These benefits cover the insurance policy years 2015/2016, 2017/2018, and 2021/2022 under the Group Life Assurance Policy and the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Insurance Scheme for the year 2022/2023. This distribution ceremony took place at the Force Headquarters, showcasing the Police Force's continued dedication to supporting the families of officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in their line of duty.
Since June 2023, the Nigeria Police Force has successfully resolved 2,533 insurance claims for deceased police officers, totaling N6,013,043,326.51k. This achievement was made possible through the efforts of the Force Insurance Office.
The Inspector General of Police praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for prioritizing the welfare of the police force and ensuring that compensation is fairly distributed to the families of deceased officers. He also highlighted his administration's dedication to continue efficiently disbursing insurance payments and other welfare benefits to recipients.
