On Thursday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) delivered its fifth shipment of one million barrels of Bonny Light to Dangote Petroleum Refinery.

The refinery is making preparations to receive its sixth shipment of one million barrels of crude oil, scheduled for next week.

This recent progress represents a substantial milestone for the refinery, as it gears up to commence its operations.

The crude oil shipment, which is the fifth delivery out of six million barrels expected, has arrived at the Single Point Mooring (SPM)-C2 Dangote Offshore Oil Terminal.

It has been unloaded into the crude oil tanks at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery facility. Dangote Refinery, as you may remember, had previously obtained a shipment of four million barrels of crude oil.

Mr. Akin Omole, the Managing Director of Dangote Ports Operations, previously informed journalists at the Dangote Quay in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, that the Refinery is expected to receive approximately four million shipments of crude oil before the conclusion of 2023.

The remaining two shipments are anticipated to arrive at the beginning of January 2024. He further stated that this supply of crude oil will enable the Refinery to commence its operations with a favorable advantage.

Once all 6 million barrels have been completely delivered, it will enable the refinery to begin its operations and initiate the production of diesel, aviation fuel, and LPG. Following that, it will progress towards producing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

"The fuel supply challenges encountered by Nigeria and the West African countries will be significantly eased through this significant advancement."

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, was specifically created to handle Nigerian crude oil while also being adaptable to process various other types of crude oil.

This refinery has the capability to refine most African crude oil grades, as well as the Middle Eastern Arab Light and the US Light tight oil, in addition to crude oil from other nations. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has the capacity to fulfill all of Nigeria's demand for refined products, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel.

Moreover, the refinery also has an excess supply of these products available for export. The refinery was constructed with the purpose of transporting crude oil from two Single Point Mooring (SPM) systems situated 25 kilometers away from the coastline, and then releasing refined petroleum products through three distinct SPMs. Furthermore, the refinery has the capacity to load up to 2,900 trucks daily at its truck-loading gantries.

The marine facility at Dangote Refinery is equipped to handle the largest ship in the world and is self-sufficient. Furthermore, all the refinery's products will meet the specifications of Euro V.

The refinery has been constructed in accordance with the emission standards set by the US EPA, European regulations, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) emission/effluent guidelines, and also adheres to the standards established by the African Refiners and Distribution Association (ARDA).

When Mr. Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group, received the initial shipment, he expressed his satisfaction with reaching this major milestone. He emphasized the significance of this achievement for the country as it showcases our capability to undertake and complete extensive capital projects.

The priority in the upcoming months is to increase the refinery's operation to its maximum capacity. Mr. Dangote eagerly anticipates accomplishing the next significant milestone.
