CP Adegoke Fayoade, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos Command, recently visited the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) office in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos to show respect. It was his first time visiting the office of the pioneering security funding agency in Nigeria.
NAOSNP has informed that he was welcomed by Dr. Abdurrazaq Balogun, the Executive Secretary/CEO of Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), along with Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, a board member of LSSTF, Mr. Degbola Lewis, the Administrator of LSSTF, Ada Onyeka, the Assistant Secretary, and other LSSTF staff. Dr. Abdurrazaq Balogun, the Executive Secretary/CEO of Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), stated during his speech that many individuals are unaware of the existence of LSSTF, and even those who are aware do not take any action because they are not obligated.
He questioned why A-list artists cannot become brand ambassadors for LSSTF, but the difficulty lies in reaching out to them due to their monetary concerns.
However, he expressed that it would be beneficial if the Police could approach these artists in their official capacity.
The erudite public administrator, Balogun, stressed the importance of receiving donor support for his agency.
He stated that the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) solely relies on donations from donors, with no involvement or financial contribution from the Lagos State Government. Balogun recalled that the Ministry of Home Affairs would direct individuals seeking citizenship or visiting Lagos to donate to the LSSTF as part of their social responsibility.
He suggested that the Commissioner of Police (CP) could explore a similar approach by informing potential donors about the LSSTF's existence and their 17 years of support, encouraging them to contribute. Balogun also recommended organizing networking events where the LSSTF could present their mission and seek support from potential donors.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Management, and Staff, I express gratitude and extend best wishes for your period as Commissioner of Police in Lagos Command. Despite the significant workload, we will continue to sustain the RRS.
Previous Commissioners have frequently reached out to us for assistance, and we will offer as much support as possible. However, it is important to acknowledge that we cannot bear the entire burden of responsibility for the entire Lagos State Police Command."
The CP was warmly welcomed to Lagos by Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, a Board Member of the LSSTF. Dr. Ogunsan mentioned that both the CP and the President are familiar with the city of Lagos.
He expressed his desire for the CP to utilize his position to contribute positively to the LSSTF.
He emphasized that the LSSTF is the only agency in the country that provides support and assistance to all security organizations in Lagos, regardless of whether they are federal or state. Dr. Ogunsan made it clear that there is no discrimination within the LSSTF.
'I urge the CP to enable us to benefit from your extensive network of affluent and philanthropic Nigerians who frequently require the assistance of the Police, to kindly assist LSSTF by making financial and non-monetary contributions. Furthermore, I propose that LSSTF donation forms be readily available on the CP's desk and in other units at the Headquarters that regularly engage with these affluent and well-intentioned Nigerians.
I can guarantee that if we receive consistent donations from the Police Command, the fund's administration will promptly address all security requirements in the state.'
'Kindly accept responsibility for the assets that we provide to your personnel, respected CP sir. Encourage your officers and men to take ownership of these valuable assets. If necessary, arrange training sessions to ensure they are well-versed in handling and maintaining these resources. Consider any equipment assigned to you as if it were your personal possession.
In the event of any minor issue, promptly report it for immediate attention.' ‘Regarding the aviation fuel for the Air Wing, we have explored potential actions, but we are aware that we lack the necessary financial means, until recently when we received an intervention. Nevertheless, this development has sparked discussions.
Considering that a Nissan Nirvera car costs N44m, how many vehicles do you believe 1 billion naira can acquire? Hence, the widely publicized amount of 1 billion naira can only purchase up to 20 vehicles, which we acknowledge is inadequate for policing Lagos.’
CP Adegoke Fayoade expressed his gratitude through a Thank You note, acknowledging the significance of the visit to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF). He highlighted the vital role played by LSSTF in providing logistics support that has greatly contributed to policing in Lagos. Fayoade emphasized the importance of showing appreciation for their support and acknowledged that without LSSTF, their ability to execute their duties would be compromised.
"With your guarantee, we will increase our efforts. We have no alternative but to step up our initiatives. Your continuous support and strong emphasis on security are greatly appreciated. Rest assured, we will not let you down. Our priority is to ensure that Lagos is safe and secure.
We are committed to enhancing our infrastructure management skills. I will personally ensure that the allocated assets are well-maintained, thereby extending their lifespan," Fayoade promised the LSSTF.
CP Adegoke Fayoade arrived at the LSSTF office accompanied by several individuals, such as DC Operations of the Lagos Command, DCP Fatai Tijani, CSP AKA Shittu, PPRO of the Lagos Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, and various others.
