"IGP Egbetokun received a petition from the families of Ogbosain and Perezide, directed towards Mr. Abass, the Delta State Commissioner of Police.
This petition claims that their son was allegedly murdered by His Royal Majesty Charles Ayemi Botu, the paramount ruler of the Seimbiri kingdom, along with other individuals.
The allegation was made by them that the ruler and other individuals from the society had organized and executed the killing of their child.
The Ogbosain and Perezide families from Okpokunou, Obotebe, and Ekeremor towns in Bayelsa and Delta States have filed a petition today alleging the murder of their 23-year-old son, Daniel Chukwuemeka Ogbosain.
According to the families, King Pere Charles Ayemi-Botu of Seimbiri Kingdom, along with his followers, is responsible for the crime.
The information was disclosed by the families through a petition which was endorsed by individuals named as Diare Samuel Perezide, Mr. Akpos. A. Godspower, and Moses Okpako Ogbosain.
Attorney Israel.O. Nwokeiwu Esq. and his legal team, consisting of attorneys B.F. Mabiko Esq. and C.F. Famateigha Esq., were responsible for drafting their petition.
The families expressed surprise and sorrow regarding their son's unexpected and premature demise.
They alleged that he was ruthlessly killed on direct instructions from the Executive Chairman of the Okpokunou Urban Community and the paramount ruler of the Seimbiri Kingdom.
According to the family members, the accused individuals assaulted their son using sticks, machetes, and various harmful weapons.
They allegedly poured petrol, referred to as Premium Motor Spirit, on his hands and legs during the attack.
"They asserted that the fatal outcome was a result of the severe harm inflicted upon him by the perpetrators."
As reported by the families, the incident caused immense distress among the entire community.
As per their account, the occurrence took place on May 2, 2023.
The families recounted the incident, stating that their son was bullied under suspicion of stealing laboratory equipment that belonged to the community.
The individuals involved in the harassment were identified as Mr. Apostle, Mr. Christian Ambai, Mr. Arekedoumene, Mr. Yenrin Complain, Mr. Prince Abrafa, Mr. Tenezibau Anthony, Mr. Wilson Chamber, Mr. Prestar Kodokor, Mr. Secretary, Mr. John Okorodas, Mr. Secretary Amgbara, Mr. Chairman’s Adviser, Mr. Apostle, Mr. Apostle, Mr. Arekedoumene, Mr. Arekedoumene, Mr. Yenrin Complain, Mr. Prince Abrafa, and Mr. Tenezibau Anthony.
The families assert that when the deceased refuted the accusation, the mentioned suspects formed a court and condemned the departed individual to death for the alleged theft.
The families also mentioned, "After announcing their decision, Mr. Tokekeme, the second individual under suspicion, commanded the other individuals mentioned in this paragraph to attack the deceased and execute their decision regarding the claimed theft."
"His hands and legs were bound, and he was subjected to merciless beatings using sticks, machetes, and various weapons, while also being doused with petrol, also referred to as Premium Motor Spirit. Due to the grave injuries inflicted upon him, he succumbed to death at a later time."
The suspects quickly buried the deceased on May 3, 2023, in an effort to conceal their actions and avoid being discovered.
They did this without seeking input from any of the remaining relatives.
Mr. Tokekeme, one of the individuals under suspicion, reportedly confessed to the act of killing and secretly burying the deceased.
He claimed that he did this because he had unlawfully acquired belongings from the community. Furthermore, he boasted about his position as chairman, asserting that he possessed the power to carry out such actions without any interference, not even from the government or the police.
The statement further indicated that the initial suspect had expressed unwavering support and endorsement to the community leader in their undertakings, and had pledged to utilize their networks and relationships within the government in order to ensure that the incident remains concealed.
gbouke, as mentioned, had supposedly made menacing threats to dispatch his associates to set fire to the residences of any family member of the deceased who dared to challenge him regarding the matter surrounding the circumstances of the death.
The families alleged that the suspect has been able to freely roam the community without any limitations since their son's killing.
The suspect's actions have caused great tension in the community, as families have pointed out.
They have also expressed concern that if the situation is not addressed promptly, it could lead to a breakdown in law and order.
"It cannot be denied that the actions and lack of actions by those suspects can be considered as a form of vigilante justice, which is not suitable in the modern era."
No individual, regardless of their social status, is legally allowed to end someone else's life as both God and humans value life greatly.
This act is considered a violation of human rights and must not be taken lightly.
The families asserted that they were Nigerian citizens who abide by the law and have no intention of challenging the authority of the government.
"They announced their decision to promptly raise the matter with CP Wale Abass, who holds the position of Commissioner of Police."
The case has generated a lot of interest among the public and citizens of Okpokunou Urban Community, particularly the youth.
They are closely watching and have requested CP Abass to intervene and ensure decisive action is taken. They urge him to use his authority to order the arrest of the suspects so that they can be held accountable for their actions according to the law.
Nevertheless, during an interview with this journalist, DSP. Bright Edafe, spokesperson for the police department, reiterated the commitment of the police force to conducting a thorough investigation of the murder case.
He urged the affected parties to adhere to the legal procedures, emphasizing the importance of apprehending the culprits and imposing appropriate punishment as a means of discouraging similar acts within the society.
