MC Oluomo Resigns as Lagos NURTW Chairman, Eyes National Presidency Amid Speculations

Story by Iyiola Ayomide

Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, has officially resigned as the Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), as reported by CRIMEWATCHNEWSPAPER.

This action occurs amidst numerous speculations concerning his connections to influential politician President Bola Tinubu.

According to insiders, it is believed that MC Oluomo's exit was planned due to pressure from Tinubu, who allegedly encouraged him to pursue the role of National President within the NURTW.

Many believe that this strategic decision is an effort to shift Oluomo's influence to a broader scale within the country, regardless of the attractive financial benefits he currently enjoys in Lagos.

The supposed concerns of Tinubu regarding his public appearance with MC Oluomo have sparked speculation about potential issues between the two of them.

Tinubu's discomfort with the perceived controversy surrounding Oluomo has been suggested, as it is believed that the recent decision was communicated through intermediaries.

At the moment, Mustapha Adekunle (Sego), who currently holds the position of Treasurer in the union in Lagos, is expected to take over as the leader at the Lagos State secretariat.

This appointment is to fill the gap left after MC Oluomo stepped down.

It appears that the reported health problems of Tajudeen Agbede, the President of the NURTW faction, have led to a vacant position at the national level.

This scenario creates the opportunity for MC Oluomo to possibly rise to the position of the national secretariat in Abuja.

The NURTW experienced an increase in tensions in October 2023 due to the exposure of factional disputes, which also implicated Minister of Labour and Employment Solomon Lalong.

The union's leadership was exposed to division as it faced allegations of both bias and interference.

Governmental interventions in the union's affairs in Lagos in the past, such as the dissolution of the Park and Garages Committee, have only exacerbated the situation.

MC Oluomo's second term election intensified the internal conflict, making the union's situation more complicated.

The NURTW is at a crucial point as the power struggle persists and upcoming leadership changes approach.
