The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Nigeria, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, organized a meeting at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja with the undercover reporter who exposed the alleged scandal of obtaining a university degree certificate within two weeks from a Cotonou university. The purpose of the meeting was to verify the details and go beyond speculation. The Commission's spokesperson, Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, confirmed the meeting and stated that they discussed the outlet's report on corrupt practices in the issuance of degrees at a Cotonou university. The aim of the discussion was to deepen the investigation and take appropriate actions. Ogugua highlighted that the investigation into Ecole Superieure de Gestion et de Technologies (ESGT) in Cotonou unveiled a concerning situation where degrees are allegedly awarded in as little as six weeks, bypassing standard academic procedures such as application, registration, coursework, and examinations. In response to these serious allegations, the ICPC will conduct a thorough investigation with the objective of restoring and preserving the integrity of the educational system. Additionally, the Commission plans to collaborate with domestic and international organizations to evaluate the legitimacy of academic qualifications obtained from overseas institutions, particularly those mentioned in the investigative report. The ICPC urges all stakeholders in the education and government sectors to work together in this crucial endeavor to ensure the credibility of educational qualifications and eradicate corruption.
